Softball Recap: Lowell Wins Going Away Against Hanover Central

Lowell barely beat Hanover Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Red Devils were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Wildcats on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won three matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Olivia Fuentes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Peyton Lonardi was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

Lowell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hanover Central only posted a batting average of .154.

The victory got Lowell back to even at 4-4. As for Hanover Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Lowell will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Hobart at 5:00 p.m. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Brickies have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Hanover Central, they will venture away from home to face off against Griffith at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight.
