Roswell is 1-9 against Artesia since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The two teams will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 5:00 p.m. Roswell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Roswell took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 7-3 win over Goddard.

Yadira Aragon made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Ornelas, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emily Marquez, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Roswell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Artesia entered their tilt with Bernalillo last Saturday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They never let the Spartans get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory.
Like Roswell, Artesia also got a great game from a two-way player: Katrin Marquez. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Marquez has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI.
Marquez wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Lujan, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Artesia pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Roswell, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.
Roswell's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's matchup. The Coyotes have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Artesia, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Roswell continue to outrun the ball?
Roswell suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Artesia in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Coyotes have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
