Montezuma-Cortez and Alamosa are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Panthers will head out to take on the Mean Moose at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Montezuma-Cortez will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Montezuma-Cortez barely beat Pagosa Springs the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Pirates on Monday. Considering the Panthers have won five games by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Seth Oakes looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Cory Carver was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Parker Conrad was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs and two stolen bases.
Montezuma-Cortez was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pagosa Springs only posted a batting average of .300.
Meanwhile, Alamosa had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four last Monday. Everything went their way against the Bulldogs as they made off with an 11-2 victory. 11 seems to be a good number for the Mean Moose as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Jonah Pittman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits. Pittman was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nelson Arambula, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jaidyn Burciaga, who went 2-for-5 with three runs.
Montezuma-Cortez's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Alamosa, their record now sits at 9-7.
Alamosa's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Montezuma-Cortez has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Alamosa, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Montezuma-Cortez's sizable advantage in that area, the Mean Moose will need to find a way to close that gap.
