Cairo has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the New Madrid County Central Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cairo will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 617th in Illinois, while the Eagles are ranked second in Missouri).
Last Tuesday, Cairo came up short against the Wildcats and fell 61-49.
Meanwhile, New Madrid County Central entered their tilt with the Mules with 12 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 13. It was another big night for Jadis Jones, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 16 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 15 points for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Ruff, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.
Cairo dropped their record down to 7-16 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for New Madrid County Central, their win bumped their record up to 18-1.
Cairo took a serious blow against the Eagles when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 78-36. Thankfully for Cairo, Brayden Newson (who scored 15 points along with two steals and two blocks) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
