The Trenton Tigers will venture away from home to challenge the Dixie County Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Trenton's pitching crew has only allowed 1.3 runs per game this season, so Dixie County's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Trenton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Florida's top teams: Columbia, who was ranked 17th at the time (Trenton was ranked third). Trenton fell just short of Columbia by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Addison Allaire put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Dixie County had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Taylor County 9-8.
Brilee Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Jaciee Brown was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Karly Brown was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs.
Dixie County's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Trenton, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.
Dixie County's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Trenton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Dixie County, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 strikeouts. Will Trenton keep running through batters, or will the Bears buck the trend?
Everything went Trenton's way against Dixie County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Trenton made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
