The Scott Skyhawks put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 28-0 victory over Poca on the road. Given Scott's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia football rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Poca is ranked 71st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Scott got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Preston Cooper out in front who rushed for 232 yards while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Cooper was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 59 yards. Brayden Clark was in the mix as well, providing Scott with two touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Poca still got an impressive performance from Preston Bonnett, who gained 166 total yards.
Scott's win was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Sissonville and 1-8 Logan (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 33.3% over those games). As for Poca, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.
Scott will be playing in front of their home fans against Winfield on Friday. Winfield is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Poca, they will head out on the road to face off against Hoover at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
