Apopka is a perfect 10-0 against Wekiva since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Apopka will host Wekiva at 7:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.
Wekiva will be up against a hot Apopka team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went Apopka's way against East Ridge on Thursday as Apopka made off with a 12-2 victory.
Connor McAfee looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Apopka let Nicolas Posluszny and Aiden Rieli run wild. Posluszny scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Rieli scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three hits gave Posluszny a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Collin VanFleet, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Apopka was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wekiva, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over Evans on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Emil Flaquer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Flaquer was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Darelle Martinez, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Wekiva's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-11 when he doesn't). Enrique Polanco was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Apopka pushed their record up to 11-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Wekiva, their win bumped their record up to 6-12.
Apopka took their victory against Wekiva when the teams last played back in March of 2021 by a conclusive 10-0. Will Apopka repeat their success, or does Wekiva has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
