Sayre is 4-0 against Bluegrass United since January of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Sayre Spartans will be home for the holidays to greet the Bluegrass United Bluehawks at 5:00 p.m. Sayre will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings (they are ranked 234th, while Bluegrass United is ranked 45th).
Sayre can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They walked away with a 40-27 victory over Holmes. The win was just what Sayre needed coming off of a 71-30 defeat in their prior game.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Bluegrass United's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell 61-54 to Letcher County Central.
Despite their defeat, Bluegrass United saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Allie McGuire, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. McGuire has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Hanlon, who scored 14 points.
Sayre's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-6. As for Bluegrass United, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.
Sayre was able to grind out a solid victory over Bluegrass United when the teams last played back in January, winning 63-52. Will Sayre repeat their success, or does Bluegrass United have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
