Two dominant signal callers in Jake Merklinger and Ben Brown are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Calvary Day Cavaliers will take on the Wesleyan Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Calvary Day comes in on 12 and Wesleyan on six.
Calvary Day had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Thomasville 49-0 at home. Considering Calvary Day has won 11 games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Merklinger continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 238 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Merklinger hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Edward Coleman, who gained 50 total yards and two touchdowns.
Stephens County typically have all the answers at home, but on Friday Wesleyan proved too difficult a challenge. Wesleyan walked away with a 33-26 win over Stephens County.
Wesleyan's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jamie Tremble, who picked up 217 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Brown, who threw for 356 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 14.2 yards per attempt. Tremble's longest reception was for an incredible 79 yards.
Calvary Day's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 35.58 points. As for Wesleyan, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as Calvary Day and Wesleyan have no problem gaining yardage. Calvary Day has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 409.5 total yards per game. However, it's not like Wesleyan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 386.8 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
