West Central recap October 8, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in West Central this week, South Putnam beat Mt. Vernon 45-21. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Eagles.
Greencastle took down Cloverdale 49-24 last week, the largest margin of any game. Tyler Scott threw for 354 yards and 6 touchdowns and ran for 32 yards during the win.
He was 26-42 with 1 interception.
Wade Warren was the best wideout in the league this week as the Clovers lost to the Tiger Cubs. Warren racked up 8 receptions for 187 yards. Max Secrest helped Cloverdale's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 30 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Greencastle's Scott and Seth Brown have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-10 quarterback Scott has thrown for 1,531 yards this season, while Brown has 38 catches for 638 yards. Zac Butler from Cascade leads the league in rushing with 983 yards.
Butler of the the Cadets is only 17 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 126 carries Butler has accumulated 983 yard this year.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Tiger Cubs' Brown goes up against Cascade's Butler.
Next week's game between Greencastle and Jason Thompson's team will feature an aerial matchup as Scott tests his arm against Butler's defensive ability.
As it stands, the Cadets are in third, while the Tiger Cubs are in second.
The league will see a high scoring game when Cascade and Greencastle face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Cadets comes in having scored 201 this season, while the Tiger Cubs have scored 252. Cascade scored 39 points last week as it bested Edgewood.
The Cadets and the Mustangs played the most contested game in West Central this week, with the Cadets eventually emerging with a 39-34 victory.
