Tyler Benford made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Stevens, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Slippery Rock and Conneaut Area, and Slippery Rock kept the tradition alive. The Rockets walked away with a 5-1 win over the Eagles on Saturday.
Connor Zorn and Parker Dalcamo did most of the damage at the plate: Zorn went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Dalcamo went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Isaac McCandless, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Slippery Rock pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Fairview, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fairview has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Slippery Rock struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
