Last Friday, Sunnyslope faced Brophy College Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Sunnyslope came out on top in a nail-biter against Brophy College Prep and snuck past 62-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
John Mattingly continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 36 points. The game was his eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Cristian Simmons, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Damien has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 20 points or more this season. They took their game at home last Wednesday with ease, bagging a 81-43 victory over San Gabriel Academy. Given Damien's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while San Gabriel Academy is ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
