The Somonauk Bobcats will take on the Newark Norsemen at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Somonauk has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight defeats, while Newark will come in with three straight wins.
Somonauk lost 11-1 to St. Francis on Wednesday.
Somonauk saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooke Bahrey, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Newark earned an 8-3 victory over Plano on Friday.
Dottie Wood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits.
On the hitting side, Kate Bromeland was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Rylie Carlson, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Newark was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Plano only posted a batting average of .214.
Somonauk's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Newark, their win bumped their record up to 13-14-2.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Somonauk hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Newark struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Somonauk might still be hurting after the 18-3 defeat they got from Newark in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Bobcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
