Basketball Recap: Sagemont Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Calvary Christian Academy

Sagemont and Calvary Christian Academy (ranked 41st and 23rd in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile contest on Tuesday. The Sagemont Prep took an 80-66 bruising from the Calvary Christian Academy Eagles. The Prep have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Sagemont's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Able, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 19 points. The matchup was Able's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Kevin Thomas was another key player, going 5 for 9 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds.

Calvary Christian Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sam Hallas out in front who went 11 of 12 on his way to 22 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Shon Abaev, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards.

Sagemont's defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-2. As for Calvary Christian Academy, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Sagemont didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-61 victory against Specially Fit Academy on the 13th. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 85-66 win against Central Pointe Christian Academy on the 13th.
