The Piqua Indians will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Meadowdale Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Friday, Piqua was the victim of a rough 60-37 loss at the hands of Sidney. While losing is never fun, Piqua can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 713th, while Sidney is ranked 342nd).
Piqua's loss came about despite a quality game from Isaiah Martin, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Romen Medley was another key contributor, scoring five points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Meadowdale's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They lost to Hughes on the road by a decisive 75-58 margin. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
This is the second loss in a row for Piqua and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for Meadowdale, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 1-6-1 record this season.
