With a playoff game on the line, the Mary Persons Bulldogs rose to the challenge on Friday. They strolled past Long County with points to spare, taking the game 35-19. The win was nothing new for Mary Persons as they're now sitting on nine straight.
Among those leading the charge was Duke Watson, who rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Watson's longest rush was for an incredible 76 yards. Mac Nelson was another key contributor, throwing for 215 yards and two touchdowns on only 18 passes.
When it comes to explaining why Long County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ahmari Douglas. Despite the final result, he rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown, and also caught a touchdown.
Mary Persons' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.4 points per game. As for Long County, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
Mary Persons will be playing at home against Crisp County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Crisp County's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three matches. Long County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
