Highland is 1-9 against Thunder Ridge since May of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Rams will be playing at home against the Titans at 3:30 p.m. Highland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Highland came up short against Madison on Friday, falling 13-7.
Janae Whitehead was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Reece Bybee, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Thunder Ridge had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Friday. They blew past the Trojans 12-1. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.
Carly Jones tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Thunder Ridge got a massive performance out of Giulia Johns, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and three runs. That's the most runs Johns has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Chelsea Adams, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Thunder Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rigby only posted an OBP of .250.
Thunder Ridge's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Highland, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Highland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Thunder Ridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Highland might still be hurting after the 7-1 loss they got from Thunder Ridge when the teams last played last Friday. Will the Rams have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
