Basketball Recap: Epiphany Comes Up Short

Epiphany lost against Liberty Christian Academy last Friday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Epiphany Falcons fell 66-56 to the Liberty Christian Academy Heat. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 383rd, while the Heat are ranked 130th).

When it comes to explaining why Epiphany lost, don't look at Thomas Lathan. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was Lathan's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Luke Wildauer, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Liberty Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dominic Pierre led the charge by going 6 of 11 on his way to 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven blocks. The dominant performance also gave Pierre a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Deon Whitner Jr, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards.

Epiphany dropped their record down to 4-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Liberty Christian Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Epiphany will take on East Carteret in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Epiphany's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. As for Liberty Christian Academy, they will host Southeastern Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southeastern Christian Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.6 points per game this season.
