Agoura and Newbury Park are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Chargers will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Panthers at 3:30 p.m. Newbury Park took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Agoura, who comes in off a win.
Agoura took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-6 margin over Westlake. Considering the Chargers have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Chaden Chatelain made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Rylee Redmond was a standout: she scored three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jordy Charash, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.
Agoura was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westlake only posted a batting average of .241.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Newbury Park challenged Oaks Christian on Tuesday. The Panthers fell 9-4 to the Lions. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Janessa Gutierrez was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Yasmin Topinko, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Newbury Park's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Agoura, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Agoura hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .387. However, it's not like Newbury Park struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Agoura took their victory against Newbury Park in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 18-1 score. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
