East Nicolaus and Pierce are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2018, but not for long. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (East Nicolaus 12.4, Pierce 8.2) so any points scored will be well earned.
East Nicolaus is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 52-0 victory over Willows. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Honkers: they've now won four in a row.
Mason Taylor went supernova, rushing for 76 yards and one score on only six carries, while also throwing for 57 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five passes. Another player making a difference was Braden Appelt, who rushed for 32 yards and one TD.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: East Nicolaus was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 274 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.
East Nicolaus didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Aiden Clark and Jackson Marmie. East Nicolaus got some further help from Justin Welch: he picked up a sack and made ten total tackles.
Meanwhile, Pierce strolled past Colusa with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 24-7.
East Nicolaus better keep an eye on Nate Macintosh. He was instrumental in Pierce's win, rushing for 97 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries. Those 97 rushing yards gave Macintosh a new career-high.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Pierce, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Jonathan Vazquez, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Pierce's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for East Nicolaus, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. East Nicolaus has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 195.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Pierce struggles in that department as they've been averaging 171.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
East Nicolaus came up short against Pierce when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 21-15. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other football content.
