The Yazoo City Indians lost against the Canton Tigers on January 12th, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Yazoo City fell 62-54 to the Tigers. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Yazoo City in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost seven in a row.
Canton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shamira Morton, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 16 rebounds. Morton is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Na'Miya Davis, who shot 4-for-6 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine assists.
Yazoo City's defeat dropped their record down to 14-12. As for Canton, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 22-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Yazoo City won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. Hopefully Greenville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Tuesday. As for Canton, they will head out on the road to face off against the Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
