Upper Darby and Garnet Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Royals are taking a road trip to challenge the Jaguars at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Upper Darby will be strutting in after a win while Garnet Valley will be coming in after a loss.
Upper Darby took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Ridley, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Royals narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Raiders 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Royals have posted against the Raiders since May 2, 2016.
Sarah Gentile made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over 8.1 innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylie Hasson, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Yard, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Upper Darby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Garnet Valley came up short against Haverford on Wednesday and fell 7-3. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Garnet Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alaina Sareyka, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
The victory made it two in a row for Upper Darby and bumps their season record up to 3-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Garnet Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.
Upper Darby might still be hurting after the 11-5 defeat they got from Garnet Valley in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Royals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
