The Bayfield Wolverines had to endure an eight-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They strolled past Aztec with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 58-43. Bayfield's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Bayfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cooper Rodrick, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Rodrick has scored at least 25% of Bayfield's points. Vincent McCullough was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Bayfield's victory bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Aztec, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bayfield will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Shiprock at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Aztec will finish 2023 at home by hosting Hozho Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hozho Academy will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
