Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Branford walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Madison County Cowboys on Tuesday. Considering the Buccaneers have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Laila Arnold spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cloey Criggall was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Branford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Branford is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Madison County, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-2.
