Basketball Game Preview: Montgomery Catholic Knights vs. Montgomery Academy Eagles

The Montgomery Catholic Knights just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Montgomery Academy Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Montgomery Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.3 points per game this season.

Montgomery Catholic is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Trinity Presbyterian just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 51-49.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Hannah Smith, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards. She has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ajah Tuggle, who went 7 for 10 en route to 15 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Montgomery Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Montgomery Academy). They simply couldn't be stopped on Monday as they easily beat Dallas County 71-23. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 179th, while the Hornets are ranked 384th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Montgomery Academy's win bumped their record up to 10-15. As for Montgomery Catholic, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 16-6.

Everything came up roses for Montgomery Catholic against Montgomery Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 55-19 victory. Will Montgomery Catholic repeat their success, or does Montgomery Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
