MaxPreps is pleased to announce that the
Houston (Germantown, Tenn.) Mustangs have officially been named to the 13th Annual MaxPreps Soccer Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its seventh year honoring girls soccer.
This is one of the most prestigious team awards in all of high school sports and it is an exclusive honor reserved for 100 of the top teams nationwide. In order to be eligible, a team must win a state championship and be highly ranked in the
MaxPreps National Rankings. For soccer, only 20 of the country's best are invited and with nearly 34,000 competing varsity teams, this puts the Mustangs ahead of 99.9 percent of their opponents!

In order to be eligible, the team not only had to be nationally ranked, but also had to win a state championship. Beating Collierville 1-0 on Saturday, October 28 marked the completion of an incredible 25-0 season – and earned Houston an invitation to the Tour of Champions.
Sophomore Madeline Eskin assisted freshman Emma Riales just before halftime of the state championship match and goalkeeper Gabrielle Dawe made sure the goal stood up at the Richard Siegel Park Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro.
Junior Cara Young, an LSU commit, made a diving save in the game's waning moments to preserve the shutout and secure Houston's eighth girls state soccer title in 10 finals appearances. The Mustangs outshot Collierville 17-2 for the match and was credited with eight shots on goal to just one for the Dragons.
The Mustangs, who upended Collierville for the third time this season, began
TSSAA AAA state championship play with a 3-0 win over Siegel before upending Brentwood 2-0 to set up the rematch with the Dragons. David Wolff's club did not give up a goal in any of its three state playoff matches.
The Mustangs opened the season with a 6-0 trouncing of Germantown before reeling off 24 more wins in a row to complete the season undefeated. Houston posted 18 shutouts during the 2017 season. Having won 25 straight contests, the Mustangs rode their hot streak into some rather high rankings at season's end. Wolff's club finished the season atop MaxPreps' Computer Rankings for the entire state of
Tennessee and lists the Mustangs as the nation's
No. 3 squad.
These incredible season achievements have earned the Houston Mustangs an invitation to the 13th Annual Tour of Champions.
Please join us as we celebrate with the girls soccer team, coaching staff, students and fans on Tuesday, December 12 at about 7:30 p.m. in the gym during halftime of the boys basketball game.
