Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elizabeth). They enjoyed a cozy 72-55 win over the Village Mountaineers on Thursday. The score was all tied up 33-33 at the break, but the Cardinals were the better team in the second half.
Elizabeth found their leader in sophomore Cohen Steinke, who went 8-for-14 to rack up 20 points in addition to eight assists and six rebounds. Steinke has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 14 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Bryan Jeffs, who posted 16 points along with seven boards and four steals.
Elizabeth was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Village's loss came despite strong showings from Caleb Heath and Carter Sterk. Heath went 7-for-11 on his way to 18 points and seven steals, while Sterk went 5-for-9 en route to 25 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Those 18 points gave Heath a new career-high. James Driggers was another key player, putting up seven points and seven boards.
