Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 18 to 9 on the offensive boards, a fact the Blue Ridge Christian Warriors proved on Saturday. They came out on top against Heartland by a score of 48-38. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Blue Ridge Christian has scored all season.
Blue Ridge Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mekhi Jones, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Jones has scored at least a third of Blue Ridge Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Pennbrook Shaver, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, Heartland saw an underclassman step up: Jayce Maiden dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Maiden has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Jackson Odom was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
Blue Ridge Christian pushed their record up to 5-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for Heartland, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Blue Ridge Christian will take on Cornerstone Family at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Heartland, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Plaza Heights Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Plaza Heights Christian Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests.
