The Myers Park Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 20 points or more this season. They ended the year with a bang, routing New Hanover 51-29. The victory was just business as usual for Myers Park, who after nine games remain undefeated this season.
Myers Park's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chayla McDaniel, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that McDaniel pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jerin Truesdale, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, New Hanover still got an impressive performance from Zirhe Sellers, who scored four points along with 13 rebounds and four blocks. Those 13 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her.
New Hanover struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Myers Park's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for New Hanover, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-1.
Myers Park won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Lucy Beckham at 7:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Lucy Beckham is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. New Hanover will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against New Bern at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. New Bern will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 371st, while New Hanover is ranked 70th).
