Pima has gone 6-1 against Duncan recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Roughriders will head out to face off against the Wildkats at 3:45 p.m. Pima has given up an average of 10.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Pima fell victim to Morenci and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 15-0 to the Wildcats. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Roughriders' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Duncan had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 22-4 margin over the Braves. The result was nothing new for the Wildkats, who have now won eight contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Reymia Contreras made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Paisley Patton was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Shaylynn Rhoton was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs.
Duncan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Pima has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Duncan, their record is now 10-5.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pima has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .505. However, it's not like Duncan struggles in that department as they've averaged .528. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pima might still be hurting after the 9-1 loss they got from Duncan when the teams last played back in March. Can the Roughriders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
