The Rivera Raiders will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Santa Rosa Warriors at 11:30 a.m. on November 30th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two weeks ago, Rivera narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Harlingen South 34-31.
Meanwhile, Santa Rosa came tearing into Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Monte Alto by a score of 37-27.
Santa Rosa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amber Mendoza led the charge by scoring 8 points along with 18 rebounds and 4 steals. Mendoza is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lilyan Lopez, who scored 10 points along with 8 rebounds and 6 steals.
The victory got Rivera back to even at 6-6. As for Santa Rosa, the victory also got them back to even at 4-4.
Rivera beat Santa Rosa 45-34 when the teams last played back in November of 2021. Will Rivera repeat their success, or does Santa Rosa have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
