The Santa Fe Catholic Hawks will take on the McKeel Academy Wildcats in a tournament on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
McKeel Academy will be up against a hot Santa Fe Catholic team: the squad just extended their winning streak to six. The Hawks came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against Mulberry. That's two games straight that the Hawks have won by just one run.
Angel Andujar was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but McKeel Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past Lakeland Christian 6-5. Six seems to be a good number for the Wildcats as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Tristan Blomeley looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, McKeel Academy's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Carter Rouse, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-5. Wyatt Thomas was another, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
McKeel Academy is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Santa Fe Catholic, their record now sits at 19-3.
McKeel Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Santa Fe Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. It's a different story for McKeel Academy, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain Santa Fe Catholic's hitters?
Everything went Santa Fe Catholic's way against McKeel Academy when the teams last played back in March, as Santa Fe Catholic made off with a 7-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
