The NFL Yet Academy Eagles can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They secured a 67-62 W over St. John Paul II Catholic. The win was just what NFL Yet Academy needed coming off of a 67-33 loss in their prior matchup.
NFL Yet Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but EUDY LARA-CASTILLO led the charge by dropping a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points LARA-CASTILLO has scored all season. ABEL RUIZ was another key contributor, scoring 23 points along with three steals.
When it comes to explaining why St. John Paul II Catholic lost, one person who can't be blamed is Hayden Umbdenstock. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Umbdenstock scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Layne Dickens, who scored 13 points.
NFL Yet Academy's win bumped their record up to 4-11. As for St. John Paul II Catholic, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. NFL Yet Academy and Trivium Prep will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Trivium Prep is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. As for St. John Paul II Catholic, they will head out on the road to take on Heritage Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than St. John Paul II Catholic in Arizona (Heritage Academy is ranked 117th, while St. John Paul II Catholic is ranked 274th).
