Meanwhile, Goshen Central strolled into their game last Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Newburgh Free Academy as they made off with a 10-3 victory.
Addison Freiberger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Sophia Springer was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bailey Gomulka, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Goshen Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newburgh Free Academy only posted a batting average of .267.
Goshen Central pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 6.7 runs this season. As for Valley Central, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Goshen Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Valley Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .523. It's a different story for Goshen Central, though, as they've only averaged .357. Will they be able to contain Valley Central's hitters?
