The Sycamore Aviators will head out on the road to square off against the Goshen Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Sycamore came out on top against Princeton on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Aviators walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Vikings. The win continues a trend for the Aviators in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won seven in a row.
Ava Andolina spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sycamore saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Davis, who went 1-for-4 with two runs. Kaitlyn Gambaccini was another, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Goshen owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Batavia with a sharp 6-0 victory. Considering the Warriors have won six games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Kenzie Durbin, who gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Batavia off the board.
On the hitting side, Charlize Schulz and Josie Purdy did most of the damage at the plate: Schulz went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Purdy went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits Schulz has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Macee Stelle, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Goshen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Sycamore's record now sits at 10-11. As for Goshen, their record is now 10-6.
Sycamore might still be hurting after the 14-1 defeat they got from Goshen in their previous meeting back in April of 2019. Can the Aviators avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
