The Woodhaven Warriors will take on the Carlson Marauders in a tournament on Saturday. Woodhaven is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Woodhaven earned a 7-3 win over Divine Child.
Gracie Dixon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Dixon was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one double.
In other batting news, Mia Taylor was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Marley Williams, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Carlson came out on top against Taylor on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Marauders' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars an 11-0 shutout. The Marauders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by nine runs or more this season.
Carlson also got a great performance from Zoey Gunter (2028) as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Gunter (2028) has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Addison Skinner (2026), who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Kennedy Warren (2028) was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Carlson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .533. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in 13 consecutive games.
Carlson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 19-10-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Woodhaven, their record is now 15-12.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Woodhaven has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .466. However, it's not like Carlson struggles in that department as they've averaged .452. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Woodhaven suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Carlson in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
