After two games on the road, Brophy College Prep is heading back home. They will take on The Salpointe Catholic Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Brophy College Prep can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 44-7 win over Mountain Pointe. With Brophy College Prep ahead 27-7 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
It was another big night for Charlie McGinnis, who threw for 246 yards and four touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Harrison Chambers, who gained 161 total yards and a touchdown.
Brophy College Prep's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Mountain Pointe's QB won't forget Bastian Vanden Bosch anytime soon given Vanden Bosch sacked him five times.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Brophy College Prep, racking up 14 points in total. All those points came courtesy of Connor Furey: he added nine points with three field goals, and another five kicking extra points.
Meanwhile, Salpointe Catholic faced Saguaro in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Salpointe Catholic walked away with a 21-14 victory over Saguaro on Friday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Salpointe Catholic.
Salpointe Catholic can attribute much of their success to Taylor Nagore, who rushed for 69 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and also threw for 117 yards and a touchdown on only 11 passes.
Brophy College Prep's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Salpointe Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Brophy College Prep has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 169.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Salpointe Catholic struggles in that department as they've been even better at 215 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
