The Tocoi Creek Toros will take on the Ponte Vedra Sharks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Tocoi Creek 3.8, Ponte Vedra 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Things were looking good for Tocoi Creek after they put the first runs on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Providence School by a score of 5-4.
Tocoi Creek got a good showing from Kaleb Stockwell, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
On the hitting side, Tocoi Creek saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Eisenhuth, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Ponte Vedra owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over Nease. The Sharks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Caleb Stanton was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Dylan McAdoo was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Ponte Vedra is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Tocoi Creek, they dropped their record down to 15-6 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tocoi Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ponte Vedra struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Tocoi Creek beat Ponte Vedra 6-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Toros repeat their success, or do the Sharks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
