The Jasper Wildcats will challenge the Evansville Memorial Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jasper is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Jasper didn't have quite enough to beat Tecumseh and fell 5-4. The Wildcats have struggled against the Braves recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Jasper got a good showing from Romey Werner, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Werner has allowed since back in March.
At the plate, Jasper saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryn Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Evansville Memorial). They were the clear victors by a 21-1 margin over Evansville Bosse on Wednesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Tigers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Teagan Davis was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run.
In other batting news, Madison Thomas and Annie Blackburn did most of the damage at the plate: Thomas fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-5, while Blackburn went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Thomas has been hot, having posted three or more hits the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mallory Wollenmann, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Evansville Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 25 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
The win got Evansville Memorial back to even at 5-5. As for Jasper, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jasper hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Evansville Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .407. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
