After a string of five wins, the Bishop Stang Spartans's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell 61-49 to Somerset Berkley Regional. While losing is never fun, Bishop Stang can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while Somerset Berkley Regional is ranked 12th).
Somerset Berkley Regional got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mason Medeiros out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brendan Mcdonald, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Somerset Berkley Regional's lineup was just a bit different on Monday as Jacob Louro got a bit more time on the court (15 vs. his season average of 6.67). Louro made the most of the opportunity, scoring 12 points. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Bishop Stang's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5. As for Somerset Berkley Regional, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with that victory, which was their ninth straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop Stang will square off against Old Rochester Regional at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Somerset Berkley Regional, they will head out on the road to take on Seekonk at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Somerset Berkley Regional focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Monday.
