Last Thursday, St. Andrew's Episcopal faced Connelly School of the Holy Child in a battle between two of the state's top teams. St. Andrew's Episcopal slipped by Connelly School of the Holy Child 52-51. The victory was just what St. Andrew's Episcopal needed coming off of a 71-41 defeat in their prior match.
St. Andrew's Episcopal's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anna beth Tsai-turton led the charge by scoring ten points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tsai-turton has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylah Thompson, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Sidwell Friends beat Sacred Heart 53-48 on Monday.
Sidwell Friends had a senior duo take command as Zania Socka scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and two steals and Kendall Dudley scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. That's the first time this season that Dudley posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Jayla Jackson, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
St. Andrew's Episcopal is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Sidwell Friends, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
Tuesday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: St. Andrew's Episcopal have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 38.8% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Sidwell Friends struggles in that department as they've nailed 44.5% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
