The Suffern Mounties will head out on the road to face off against the Carmel Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Mamaroneck scored an imposing 33 points on Friday, Suffern still came out on top. Suffern sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 35-33 victory over Mamaroneck. The victory was just what Suffern needed coming off of a 30-0 loss in their prior match.
Jephthah Joseph went supernova for Suffern, rushing for 322 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Joseph was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 60 yards.
Meanwhile, Carmel had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 20-6 victory over New Rochelle. Given Carmel's advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while New Rochelle is ranked 224th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The critical scores for Carmel came from Ryan Aabel and Damien Santiago.
Suffern's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Carmel, their win was their tenth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-1.
Suffern might still be hurting after the 25-0 defeat they got from Carmel in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Suffern avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
