The Greenwich Cardinals will head out on the road to challenge the Staples Wreckers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Greenwich is hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses.
On Tuesday, Greenwich came up short against New Canaan and fell 57-44.
Meanwhile, Staples' three-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They took down Darien 61-45. Given Staples' advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Darien is ranked 112th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Sam Clachko, who scored 30 points along with six assists and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Staples' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Sikorski, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Greenwich's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Staples, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Greenwich ended up a good deal behind Staples in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, losing 56-38. Thankfully for Greenwich, Chris Zajac (who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 18 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
