The Wolfe County Wolves are taking a road trip to take on the Morgan County Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Wolfe County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Wolfe County was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Lee County on Thursday. The Wolves were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Bobcats. The win continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won three in a row.
Chance Fallen and Camden Oliver made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Fallen pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Oliver pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Fallen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Fallen went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Oliver went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Oliver has posted since back in April.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Slade Freeman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another was Landon McWhorter, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Morgan County faced off against Breathitt County on Thursday. The Cougars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Bobcats.
The team relied heavily on Grayson Hampton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Isaac Campbell also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Morgan County now has a winning record of 14-13. As for Wolfe County, their record is now 19-10.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wolfe County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .456. However, it's not like Morgan County struggles in that department as they've averaged .442. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wolfe County took their win against Morgan County in their previous matchup last Tuesday by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
