Fontana and Arroyo Valley are an even 3-3 against one another since August of 2016, but not for long. The Fontana Steelers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Arroyo Valley Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Fontana fought the good fight in their overtime game against San Gorgonio on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 27-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Rashawn Williams, who rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown. Ruben Camacho was another key contributor, rushing for 15 yards and two touchdowns.
Arroyo Valley had a rough season last year, but they look ready to turn that poor record around this year. They secured a 30-26 W over Colton on Friday. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Arroyo Valley was the better team in the second half.
Ronald Weathers continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 319 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.0 yards per carry, and also picking up 64 receiving yards. Weathers really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run.
Arroyo Valley's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Mattathias Williams and his two sacks.
Fontana now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Arroyo Valley, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Fontana has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 198.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Arroyo Valley struggles in that department as they've been even better at 257 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Fontana didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Arroyo Valley in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, but they still walked away with a 28-22 win. Will Fontana repeat their success, or does Arroyo Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
