Summit got a great performance from Addison Johnson as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. What's more, Johnson posted four strikeouts, the most she's had over her last nine games.
On the hitting side, Tarek Scherr was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Saniya Hunter, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
Summit always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Independence). Everything went their way against Spring Hill on Monday as they made off with a 19-0 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their two-run performance the match before.
Kerrigan Riebe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Riebe, who fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 2-for-2. Reagan Maxon was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Summit has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Independence, they pushed their record up to 13-14 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Summit hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Independence struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
