The Socastee Braves can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They had just enough and edged Orangeburg-Wilkinson out 42-40. The win was just what Socastee needed coming off of a 59-21 defeat in their prior matchup.
Leading Socastee to victory were Bri Smith and Rylee Minehart. Smith scored 13 points along with three steals, while Minehart scored 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Reese Pratt, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Orangeburg-Wilkinson saw an underclassman step up: Joliyah Robinson scored 27 points. Those 27 points set a new season-high mark for her.
Socastee's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Orangeburg-Wilkinson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-2.
Socastee and Marion will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Marion is ranked 146th, while Socastee is ranked 142nd). Orangeburg-Wilkinson will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Scott's Branch at 2:00 p.m. on January 6th.
