The Chandler Wolves will head out to take on the Cesar Chavez Champions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Chandler has five straight wins, Cesar Chavez has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Chandler is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Valley Vista, posting a 62-13 victory. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Monsoon are ranked 71st) , the win on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chandler's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Will Mencl, who threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 34 yards and one score. Mencl has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Chase Ochoa was another key rusher, gaining 74 total yards and three touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Chandler was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 257 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 155 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Cesar Chavez scored first but ultimately less than Mesa in their game on Friday. They were beaten by the Jackrabbits 45-14. The contest was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly the Champions struggled afterwards.
Chandler will have to contain Mason Penrod as he made an impact in Cesar Chavez's last game. He picked up 102 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Chandler's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Cesar Chavez, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Chandler has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 189.6 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Cesar Chavez, though, as they've been averaging only 62.4 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Chandler beat Cesar Chavez 27-18 when the teams last played back in August of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
