The Mica Mountain Thunderbolts waltzed into their match Wednesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They took down Canyon del Oro 56-37. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Mica Mountain also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Mica Mountain was led to victory by Kayla Mathie and Isabella Webb. Mathie scored 16 points along with three steals, while Webb dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Webb has scored at least 25% of Mica Mountain's points. Kyla Boxley was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
Mica Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Canyon del Oro, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.
Mica Mountain and Blue Ridge will round out the year against one another at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at. Blue Ridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mica Mountain in Arizona (Blue Ridge is ranked 19th, while Mica Mountain is ranked 84th). As for Canyon del Oro, they will take on Sunnyside at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. Sunnyside knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully Canyon del Oro likes a good challenge.
