Finn Moilanen tossed a big game, pitching 7.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had over his last four matchups.
On the hitting side, Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Houston Ellinger, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Fort Wayne South Side was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They skirted past Fort Wayne Wayne 4-2. The Archers haven't had any issues with the Generals recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Drew Pancake spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Fort Wayne South Side is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-7 otherwise.
At the plate, David Sandoval was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Fort Wayne South Side is undefeated when Sandoval posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-8 otherwise. Donovan French was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Wayne South Side, their record now sits at 6-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fort Wayne South Side struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
